Alberta offers a Vehicle Information Report (VIR) that anyone can request for non-protected information about a vehicle registered in Alberta. The report covers Alberta information only and is separate from a detailed Personal Property Registry lien search.

Compare the VIN on the vehicle with the seller’s documents.
Ask for or order an Alberta Vehicle Information Report when an Alberta registration history is relevant.
Read the report’s vehicle status, registration, odometer-if-reported, and lien-count fields carefully.
Use a registry agent or the Alberta.ca process for any detailed lien search, transfer, or registration question.

Limits and next checks

Alberta says the VIR does not include information from other jurisdictions.
