Sources

Factory VIN uses public government factory and recall sources. Each has a boundary.

Factory data

NHTSA vPIC provides VIN decoding. It can leave fields blank and does not reliably resolve trim or packages. We display useful returned fields and never invent the rest.

Recall campaigns

A recall campaign is a manufacturer recall notice that may cover a group of vehicles.

US recall notices come from the documented NHTSA year, make, and model endpoint. Canadian recall notices come from Transport Canada’s Vehicle Recalls Database, under the Open Government Licence, Canada.

These sources match recall notices by year, make, and model. They cannot determine whether an exact VIN is included or whether its repair is complete.

What we do not query

We do not scrape exact-VIN recall forms, NICB, IBC, CPIC, NMVTIS, Carfax, Bumper, ClearVIN, or other history products. Links to next checks are plain exits.

Affiliation

Factory VIN is not a government website and is not affiliated with NHTSA, the U.S. DOT, Transport Canada, NICB, IBC, or ICBC.
